Service Description: The US Geological Survey’s Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC), formally established in October of 1996, measures effects of Glen Canyon Dam operations on the resources along the Colorado River from Glen Canyon Dam to Lake Mead. As the science provider to the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program (GCDAMP), GCMRC designs and implements scientific studies to meet the objectives put forward by resources managers of the GCDAMP. In addition to its role as the science arm of GCDAMP, GCMRC is also responsible for disseminating both the data collected in support of science objectives as well as the results of the studies conducted.
This online service provides base GIS layers most commonly used by the U.S. Geological Survey's Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center. The data sets available through this service include GCMRC's river mile system, locations and names of river rapids, tributaries and other geographic place names.
